Steven Called My Business

Dear Business Owner,

My name is Steven Peisner and I am the president of SellitSAFE.com; you may or may not know it yet, but your business or company may be the victim of Hack or may be what is known as a "Point of Compromise." This is where Hackers have stolen your customers credit card information, and now that consumer may be the victim of Identity Theft. If your business is found to be the "point of compromise" for even "one consumer" you can not imagine the amount of problems that you may be facing not to mention the financial burden you may have just incurred.

If I have called it is because I have found your company being mentioned in cyber space as easy to hack or I have interviewed consumers and your company name was mentioned more than once. If I have called your business it is to warn you that your business may have a vulnerability that needs immediate attention and that waiting may only cause more harm to consumers. I also call to advise when I have found user names and passwords being posted in cyberspace - most hackers will deface your website if you do not take action quickly. Although your company does not have a financial loss with credit card exposure you may have other exposures with customer lists and internet image.

SellitSAFE.com monitors Publicly Accessible Areas of the Internet and Forums around the world for compromised Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and company information including: Domain Names, Admin User Names & Passwords, Admin Logins, Bank Account Data, Shopping Carts Usernames and Passwords, and other information. You can read about the work that I do in the New York Times Magazine, USAToday, The Green Sheet, FSTC News, Computerworld, and The Freakonomics Blog in the New York Times (my personal favorite).

At SellitSAFE.com, we are committed to providing merchants with the best transaction security and fraud prevention solutions to detect "Electronic Shoplifting" and compromised credit card data.

We understand that chargebacks and losses are one of the biggest concerns an Internet or Mail Order merchant faces, this is why we are always on the lookout for ways of reducing the possibility of an item being charged back.

It is important for merchants to understand that ultimately they are exposed to the highest risk for chargebacks and fraud. Cardholders are liable for only a nominal amount. Issuing banks usually side with cardholders and it is the merchant that ends up paying the losses associated with charges made from transactions where Identity Theft has occurred. Merchants may even end up paying fines for chargebacks and can lose their merchant account if chargeback problems are not controlled.

If you would like to know what information I have found please feel free to contact me at any time. If you do not to call me back I understand, but I urge you to check with your IT Manager, check your gateway, and check your shopping cart - make sure that all security patches are up to date.

The following link should help you understand today's standards for data security for merchants.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

By the way - my call to you is free - and if you are wondering why I do this . . . . . My step-daughter and I have a little thing that we say between us, "Be a Good Human," so this call is my being a good human to you.

Regards,

Steven Peisner
President
